John Legend Will Join 'The Voice' as a Season 16 Coach

Looks like there'll be a new coach in the red chairs for The Voice's 16th season.

On Thursday (September 13), John Legend announced the exciting news via Instagram.

"I’m thrilled to join the coaches of @nbcthevoice," he wrote aside of a photo announcing him as a coach. "I've been a guest and mentor on the show multiple times and I’m so excited to discover talented singers and help them make the most of their gift. I hope the world is ready for #TeamJL"

The soul singer will be replacing Jennifer Hudson, who's set to come back to the show for its 15th season, which premieres on September 24, after taking a break during Season 14. Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, and Kelly Clarkson are all slated to return for Season 16.

The news comes just days after the R&B star made history by becoming the first black man to achieve EGOT status after taking home the Outstanding Variety Special Emmy on September 9 for producing NBC's live production Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert. Whoopi Goldberg became the first African American winner in 2002.

The EGOT honor is given to stars who have won awards at the Emmys, the Grammys, the Oscars, and the Tonys.
