Woman Dials 911 With Her Toes After Both Hands Are Crushed By Her Car

Emergency and urgency, 911 dialed on smartphone screen. Shallow depth of field.

A North Carolina woman managed to call 911 using her toes after her hands were crushed while she was changing a flat tire on the side of I-95.

The woman, who was not identified, was driving through Colleton County in South Carolina when she was forced to pull over because one of her tires was flat. She removed the tire and started to replace it with a spare when the jack slipped out of place, causing the car to drop onto her hands, crushing them between the fender of her vehicle and the tire.

The 54-year-old woman laid on the side of the dark highway for over 30 minutes before she had an idea. She managed to slip off her shoe and was able to use her toes to dial 911. Eight minutes later, rescuers arrived and removed one of her hands using a prybar. They had to wait for a fire engine, which was equipped with a hydraulic spreader to free her other hand from underneath the car.

The woman was transported to a local trauma center with severe damage to all of her fingers. Her condition is unknown, and it is unclear if she suffered permanent damage in the accident.
