To mark Women’s History Month, radio personality Ellen K, host of KOST-FM 103.5’s The Ellen K Morning Show, kicked off a new podcast called Women We Love. At first, only four episodes were planned to release weekly, allowing Ellen more time than she usually gets on her morning show to interview women doing exciting work in various fields. But she found so many incredible women to talk to that Ellen plans to keep it going forever. In-depth and candid conversations with actress Jamie Lee Curtis, songwriter Diane Warren, attorney Dina LaPolt, pilot Kellee Edwards, and more are already available, with tons of exciting guests like Grammy winner Alicia Keys, singer Bonnie Tyler, and author Abigail Harrison, and many more on the way.
Ellen K is herself a woman worth noting. A radio internship changed the course of her life when she was young, and she’s worked her way up from DJing to co-hosting with Rick Dees and Ryan Seacrest, solo-hosting her own morning show, getting her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, becoming the voice of the Grammy Awards, and more. She knows what it’s like to be the only woman in the room, something many of her guests allude to as well. Because of that, she doesn’t only concentrate on superstars in her podcast; she also wants to include women like her co-worker’s grandmother Barb. “I wanted to get some of the generational stuff on the show too, because I have found in talking to so many women and women who are older in my life, that some of the things they have to say can also work for young people today,” she says in a recent interview.
Of course, no road to success is without its bumps, and Ellen doesn’t shy away from the tough decisions and sacrifices that her guests often had to make to get where they are today. “One of the women said to me, ‘You make decisions as if you’re on your deathbed when you’re having a tough time,’” Ellen remembers. It’s these words of wisdom that she finds the most fulfilling about the podcast: “There are just all of these great nuggets in these interviews that I think I’ll take in my life and carry with me, and I hope that people listening to the podcast will as well.” Check out Women We Love with Ellen K to celebrate some incredible women’s stories of sacrifice, struggle, and success.
