On this episode of Fake Doctors, Real Friends, Zach Braff and Donald Faison get into the Scrubs season four episode “My Unicorn.” But first, they make plans for a Dating Game-style live segment where they find a date for their producer, Joelle Monique (Zach crafts the perfect email from the perfect candidate describing Joelle’s perfect date of “pulling bong rips and watching Rebels”), talk about Zach’s workout routine (“I can’t be standing next to Gabrielle Union looking like a melted candle!”), and how hard it is to stay hydrated (“Peeing becomes part of your life more than ever before”). Then it’s all about Matthew Perry, unicorn journals (“to protect my hopes and dreams”), flirtation manipulation, and J.D. getting stuck in a well until Jack Sherry calls in to ask Donald about his stop-motion animation and get a pep talk about following his dreams.
The story in this Scrubs episode is better than the jokes, the guys agree, though there were a few laugh-out-loud moments for both of them; Zach’s favorite is when J.D. reveals that he was once stuck in a well and they had to shave down his shoulders to get him out. All the ladies in the hospital are trying to use flirtation to get what they want, and Elliott gets a little too into it and winks at the Janitor. “This is the first time that we’re getting the sense that the Janitor is in love with her and wants to marry her,” Zach says. Unfortunately, he buys a $12 engagement ring that fails to catch Elliott’s eye as she walks by him later; Zach thinks the Janitor wouldn’t be so broke all the time “if he didn’t spend his money on things like squirrel armies.” Turk gets covered in bees, but it was Donald’s stunt double that got stung: “What a job. Here’s today’s work: You’re getting covered in bees and you have no training.”
Jack calls in from Delaware; he works for an animation studio and asks Donald to “geek out” about animation, so Donald tells us how he got into stop-motion as a young kid, then befriended Seth Green years later and interned on Robot Chicken to learn how to make stop-motion puppets; the giant sets he would build in his “ultimate bachelor pad,” and the studio he has set up now in his son’s room since he’s away at art school. “It’s not just my hobby, it’s a passion,” Donald says. “I feel like I have a lot to say in this world.” Plus, why it’s okay for Donald to “simp” for his wife CaCee Cobb, the unusual things Zach displays in his house because they were gifts from his housekeeper Rosa, why “Passin' Me By” by The Pharcyde is one of “the dopest tracks in hip-hop history,” and so much more. Hear the entire hilarious conversation on this episode of Fake Doctors, Real Friends.
