Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore has reportedly emerged as a lead candidate for the New Orleans Saints' head coaching gig, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to ESPN's Adam Schefter late Thursday (January 28) night.
The Saints reportedly held second interviews with Moore, Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver and New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, while former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy was scheduled to participate in his first interview, however, will instead focus on next year's head coaching cycle. Moore's second interview reportedly took place on Monday (January 27), hours after his Eagles offense scored 55 points against the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday (January 26) to clinch a berth in Super Bowl LIX, according to ESPN.
Moore, 36, was hired by Philadelphia this past offseason, having began his coaching career on the Cowboys' staff as a quarterbacks coach in 2018, which included three seasons coaching under McCarthy, who was hired in 2020. The former Boise State quarterback was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2019 and left Dallas to take the same role with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023 before being hired by the rival Eagles.
Philadelphia ranked eighth among NFL teams in total offense (367.2 yards per game) and seventh in scoring offense (27.2 points per game) while running back Saquon Barkley became the ninth player in NFL history to record more than 2,000 rushing yards in a single season. The Eagles will face the back-to-back defending champion Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX on February 9.
