Mother and daughter killed after shooting in Vidalia, GBI investigating

VIDALIA, Ga. (WTOC) - UPDATE: Vidalia Police Chief James Jermon confirms a second victim has died after a shooting Thursday in Vidalia.

The GBI has identified the victims as 24-year-old as Latorey Denise Harden and her mother 42-year-old Pamela Harden.

One person is dead and another was wounded in a shooting in Vidalia, according to the city manager.

The person who was injured in the shooting has been taken to the hospital for treatment.

It happened at a home at the intersection of 5th Street/Waters Drive and Winona Street.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was called in to assist with the investigation. According to the GBI, Vidalia Police Department officers were dispatched to a domestic dispute in the 800 block of E. 5th Street at 12:55 p.m.

Before officers arrived on scene, a second 911 call was received regarding a shooting at the same address. When officers arrived on scene, they found two shooting victims, a 24-year-old woman and her 42-year-old mother.

The 24-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. The mother is in critical condition.

The GBI says the shooter has not been positively identified, but was seen leaving the scene in a blue 2021 Nissan Rogue with a busted window, Georgia license plate RRX1184. Vidalia Police officers say the victims knew the suspected shooter.

Police searched everywhere they could for evidence in the shooting.

“We have a deceased that was dead on the front porch. We had another female victim, she was shot in the yard,” said Vidalia Police Chief James Jermon.

They believe the shooter took off in one victim’s car and is likely already away from Vidalia. Chief Jermon says several neighbors stepped forward with information to police to find the person responsible.

“If anybody who’s hearing my voice or hearing your voice, please pray for this scene, pray for our city, because right now everybody’s hurting.”

The investigation remains active.
