So I went for that lymphatic massage again (which i am a big big fan of) and the woman said I bought the Valentine’s Special which included being "dry brushed." I had no idea what this was, but basically she was brushing me in circular motions towards my heart. I wanted to learn more, so I did a little digging to see if dry brushing is for me -- or if I'll be keeping it "sans."
To dry brush, you use a natural-bristle brush to gently but firmly brush your skin in long strokes toward your heart, usually going over each area two or three times, starting from the bottom-up or outside-in. At your belly, you brush in a clockwise motion. Dry brushing is typically done before showering and the benefits include:
- Stimulates the lymphatic system and increases circulation
- Helps eliminate toxins and detoxify the body
- Aids in digestion
- Reduces cellulite (only temporarily; it helps change the appearance)
- Exfoliates the skin (*if you have sensitive skin this is not for you)
While I enjoyed trying it out, it's probably not going to make it into my weekly to-do but give it a try!
