2 Men convicted in 2022 Port Wentworth murder

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Chatham County District Attorney, Shalena Cook Jones announced the murder convictions of two men involved in the 2022 murder of Dion Farmer in Port Wentworth.

Jahaune Butler and Keroney King were among four men indicted in the deadly Aug. 13, 2022, shooting in the Rice Creek neighborhood.

Investigators determined that on the night of Aug. 13, the defendants went to the Rice Creek clubhouse after learning there was a plan for a fight between two groups of girls. Dion Farmer, 24, drove one of the groups of girls and was shot in the back after a heated exchange of words.

Surveillance camera from the Rice Creek clubhouse caught the altercation and murder. That footage was used as evidence in the trial along with witness testimony from neighbors who heard the gunshots and saw Farmer’s body in the parking lot.

Butler and King were charged on Friday, Feb. 14 with Malice Murder, Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault and two counts of possession of weapon during the commission of a crime.

A sentencing date for Butler and King is pending, but if given the maximum penalty the men could face life in prison without parole plus 10 years.
