SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) - All government activities in the City of Savannah have resumed as the snow brought by last week's winter storm has melted away.
Sanitation operations were halted last week due to icy road conditions. These operations returned to a normal operating scheduled this week. Residential garbage collection will focus efforts on collecting the large volume of curbside garbage on a normal weekly schedule.
Residents are asked to place their refuse cart at the normal curbside location on the usual day that collections are made. Recycling will be collected this week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The Dean Forest Landfill and Bacon Park Transfer station both reopened this week, operating on normal hours.
The City’s Revenue Department has extended the due date for alcohol licenses renewal. The original deadline, Jan. 31., has been extended to Feb. 7 by 5 p.m. to accommodate businesses impacted by the closures last week.
The Jan. 23 City Council meeting was postponed to Feb. 4 at 10 a.m. This meeting will include the first public hearing on Georgia House Bill 581, rejecting homestead exemption. The City intends to opt-out of.
City Council will hold two more public hearings on Feb. 13 at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. These meetings will be held at the Eli Whitney Administrative Complex, 2 Laura Ave., Building 'G'.
