Arrest made in death of missing man found in Bluffton

BLUFFTON, S.C. (WSAV) — A Seabrook man has been arrested and charged in the death of a missing man found in Bluffton.

Darren Mulligan, 49, of Dale was reported missing by family on Jan. 15. He was found dead five days later on Gibbet Road in Bluffton.

Following an autopsy, the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office ruled Mulligan’s death a homicide.

During the investigation into Mulligan's death, Beaufort County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) found that Kevin Johnson, 36, was responsible, an official said on Wednesday.

Johnson was taken into custody Jan. 11 prior to being charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, a BSCO spokesperson said. He was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center for outstanding warrants and a drug-related offense.
