SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Dr. Jamal Touré discusses the Tremont Park Kundas Family Compound.
The Kunda or Family Compound legacy is part of African American Culture that is connected to Africa. Generally it is thought the compounds exist outside cities, but, in fact, they do exist in cities.
The Tremont Park community in Savannah is an example of the family compound existence. Tremont also had one of the greatest African American baseball stadiums in the south – Sportsman Park. Hall of Famer Satchel Paige would play there and the Bingo Long Traveling Allstars and Motorcade movie was filmed at Sportsman Park.
