SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Officials have confirmed that the crew chief aboard the Black Hawk involved in the D.C. crash was previously stationed at the Hunter Army Airfield.
Ryan O'Hara was with the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade at Hunter Army Airfield from 2020-2023. He was from Lilburn, Ga.
He leaves behind a wife and 1-year-old child, an Atlanta station reported.
O'Hara was a staff sergeant that served as a UH-60 helicopter repairer (15T) in the regular Army from July 2014 to present day, the U.S. Army said. He had deployed to Afghanistan from March- August in 2017.
"We send our deepest condolences to the families and friends of Ryan O’Hara and Sam Lilley as they navigate this difficult time," Gov. Brian Kemp said. "Both of these young Georgians shared a passion for flight and for serving others, and this terrible tragedy is that much more difficult knowing their lives were cut so unexpectedly short."
With recovery efforts underway, the 67 dead could make Wednesday's crash the deadliest U.S. aviation disaster since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
