Blue Angels fly into town

BEAUFORT, S.C. (WSAV) – The U.S. naval flight demonstration team, the Blue Angels, flew into Beaufort’s Marine Corp Air Station (MCAS) Wednesday morning in preparation for the 2025 MCAS Beaufort Air Show this spring.

In true aerial fashion, Blue Angel #7, Maj. Scott Laux, and Blue Angel #8, Lt. Lilly Montana, landed the fighter jet Boeing F-18 Super Hornet onto MCAS Beaufort’s air track with ease. They joined airshow organizers to discuss the upcoming aerial event.

The Blue Angels arrive months in advance to prepare, which Montana says gives them an idea of the airfield and pilot tasks for the airshow.

“It's like watching a beehive at work,” said Montana.

Beaufort is one of 32 show-site stops for the Blue Angels 2025 show season; a hectic and fast-paced schedule across the United States.

“We see so many great places across America," Laux said. "We're knocking out all the corners. We've been to Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and Key West. We’ll do San Diego, Miramar out there, Seattle, Kaneohe Bay out in Hawaii, obviously the Lowcountry here in Beaufort and all across the Midwest.”

Both Laux and Montana say that travel is one of their favorite things about being a Blue Angel. The other is putting on the aerial show for the thousands of viewers on the ground.

“You get to meet so many incredible people who are so enthusiastic about what we do and how it reflects on our country, on the military,” said Laux. “It's a very high-energy crowd to be around, and that's something that we all thrive on.”

Montana and Laux say they are looking forward to the air show in the spring and hope to wow even more audience members than in years past.

“There's nothing like seeing the airshow in person hearing the engines, feeling the rumble and being blown away by how close these pilots fly,” said Laux. “It's fantastic.”

The 2025 Marine Corps Air Show will be held on Saturday, April 12, and Sunday, April 13. General admission is free with tickets.
