JESUP, Ga. (WSAV) — Nearly three weeks after a Palm Street structure fire, a body was discovered in the residence, a Jesup City official said on Thursday.
The fire occurred Jan. 6, City Manager Nicholas Ellis said. The deceased person was discovered on Jan. 24, 17 days after the fire happened.
Ellis said that the Jesup police and fire departments are conducting independent reviews while working with the state agencies.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and State Fire Marshal's Office are conducting investigations into the cause of the fire and cause of death.
An autopsy will be conducted at the GBI crime lab.
