CAT to relaunch Microtransit service in West Chatham County

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) - Chatham Area Transit (CAT) is set to restart its 'Microtransit' On-Demand service on Sunday, December 15.

The service will launch in Zone Two in West Chatham, a critical area supporting workforce development that includes parts of Jimmy Deloach Parkway, the Highlands neighborhood, and Benton Boulevard.

The service will operate seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Riders may request on-demand rides within the zone through a user-friendly app. Additionally, a multimodal integration feature will connect trips to and from the zone with CAT’s fixed-route bus network.

“This relaunch represents our commitment to innovation and inclusivity in public transit,” said Dedrick Cody, Chairman of the Board of Directors. “Microtransit allows us to reduce barriers and give our riders the flexibility they need in their daily commutes.”

CAT originally piloted the Microtransit plan in East Chatham this summer, partnering with Georgia Tech to create CAT SMART.

Like a rideshare app, users can see the approximate wait time for their CAT Smart vehicle, and will soon be able to track their ride in real-time.
