CAT will hold a zero-fare day in honor of Transit Equity Day and Rosa Parks

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) - The Chatham Area Transit Authority’s (CAT) Board of Directors is holding a zero-fare day in recognition of Transit Equity Day and to honor Rosa Parks.

The zero-fare day will take place on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.

Transit Equity Day focuses on highlighting the need for accessible and affordable public transportation. The day also serves to commemorate Rosa Parks’ legacy by advocating for equitable transit systems that empower communities.

“Access to public transportation is the cornerstone of a thriving and inclusive community,” said Deidrick Cody, Chair of the CAT Board of Directors. “We are proud to honor Rosa Parks’ memory by inviting everyone to ride with us and experience the vital role public transit plays firsthand.”

CAT will dedicate a seat on every fixed-route and paratransit mobility vehicle in remembrance of Rosa Parks.

“Rosa Parks’ act of courage reminds us that transit systems must serve as pathways to opportunity and equity,” said Stephanie Cutter, Interim Executive Director/CEO. “By offering a zero-fare service day, we honor and keep Rosa Parks’ legacy alive.

February 4th marks the anniversary of Rosa Parks’ historic stand for justice in 1955 when she refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery, Alabama bus.
