Champney River Park, boat ramp to close for renovations after duck season

DARIEN, Ga. (WSAV) — The James Allen Williamson Champney River Park and boat ramp will be closed for renovations after duck hunting season ends on Jan. 28, 2025, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

The ramp south of downtown Darien off U.S. Highway 17 is expected to be closed for six months while the renovations are underway.

They plan to upgrade the parking lot, install two new double-lane ramps, replace the service doc and plant bioswale and native vegetation.

“We are excited to enhance the Champney River Park to better serve boaters, anglers, and the community,” Paul Medders, CRD’s public access lead, said. “These improvements will ensure the park remains a vital resource for recreation and conservation in McIntosh County for years to come.”
