Chatham County man charged for allegedly murdering parents and son

CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) — A Chatham County man accused of murdering his parents and child in November 2024 appeared in front of a judge Thursday for his pretrial hearing.

Detective Robbins with the Chatham County Police Department (CCPD), who responded to the scene the day 68-year-old Connie, 71-year-old Daniel and 14-year-old Junior Babcock were killed, took the stand to speak about what she witnessed.

Her testimony was enough for Judge Crystal Harmon to rule there was sufficient evidence to charge Junior Thomas Babcock, Connie and Daniel's son and the youngest Babcock's father, with three counts of felony murder.

Babcock appeared in court via video call.

The hearing began with Robbins' account of what officers observed when they first responded to a 911 call from the Babcock's home on Quacco Trail.

"When they first arrived, they walked toward the home and entered the gate," she said. "They observed bullet holes in the window facing the driveway on the side of the house."

According to Robbins, Babcock was the one who called 911.

She said officers did not find him in their initial sweep of the property, but that he was discovered hours later when he came running out of the shed holding a shotgun.

Though, the Chatham County detective said Babcock consented to an interview with police.

"During the interview, he confessed to killing the three victims, " she said. "He advised that he was the Sheeba and that Daniel was the devil, Miss Connie was the devil's wife, and that Junior Junior was the beast, and he needed to get rid of him for the good of the world."

Robbins said that Babcock's family wasn't entirely shocked about his outlandish claims.

"From the interviews, they kind of went toward if anything had happened in the house, it would've had to have been the defendant. He had been making comments about the rapture."

Judge Harmon said the case will now be handed over to the superior court.

He's currently being held in detention. There is no set date for Babcock's trial yet.
