SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – In anticipation of very cold weather Sunday through Thursday, the city of Savannah and partner agencies are making warming facilities available for those without adequate shelter.
The Tompkins Regional Center, 2333 Ogeechee Road, will open Sunday, January 19, 2025, and Monday, January 20, 2025, at 7:00 p.m., closing at 7:00 a.m. the following morning for residents in need of a last-resort overnight shelter. Pets, under the owner’s control, are welcome. Bare essentials will be provided for people, all needed supplies for pets should be brought. Capacity at the warming center will be limited.
Beginning Tuesday, January 21, 2025, the warming center at Tompkins will be open from 3:00 p.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2025. Pets, under the owner’s control, are welcome. Bare essentials will be provided for people, all needed supplies for pets should be brought. Capacity at the warming center will be limited.
Residents are encouraged to minimize travel, stay indoors, check on the elderly and bring pets inside during the worst part of the extreme cold.
The Savannah Police Department (SPD) and Chatham Savannah Authority for the Homeless (CSAH) can assist in transporting residents to shelter locations if required. For cold weather support for our unhoused community members, please call CSAH at 912-790-3400 or contact outreach staff at 912-784-1794. Additional cold weather resources are available, supplies are limited.
Homeless Service Provider Partners are also extending hours and services to serve persons experiencing homelessness. Transportation is available through CSAH outreach staff from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, 2025, and Monday, January 20, 2025.
