SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – City workers responded to a sewage spill downtown that was caused by a damaged sewer main.
The minor spill occurred on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 1600 Wheaton Street.
An estimated 8,500 gallons spilled before the flow was shut off to allow for repairs. State Environmental Protection Division guidelines classify this as a minor spill, which is a spill under 10,000 gallons.
The spill was the result of a damaged force main which was isolated and is in the process of being repaired.
Per state guidelines, all necessary agencies were notified.
