Community Corner: Alpha Phi Alpha to present 80th debutante class

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Later this month, an elite group of local young ladies will be formally introduced as women in society as the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.'s 80th debutante class.

Since 1945, the Beta Phi Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha has upheld the tradition making it the oldest continuous African American cotillion in the country.

Ramon Ray, the debutante committee chairman and member of the Beta Phi Lambda chapter, joined WSAV on Community Corner to talk about the history of the event and more.

It's set for Friday, Dec. 20, at 7 p.m. at the Savannah Civic Center's Johnny Mercer Theater.

The debutante is a ticketed event. For more information, call 912.704.3124 or email alphadebutantes@comcast.net.
