Day 7 of the Leilani Simon murder trial

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – The second week of testimony continues in the Leilani Simon murder trial. Prosecutors are trying to prove the Chatham County mother killed her toddler son Quinton in October 2022.

The jury has now heard from 26 of the 40-plus witnesses who are expected to take the stand. It was also revealed that the list is changing, with the judge allowing for some new additions.

Day seven of the trial is expected to begin at 9:30 a.m. (streaming at 10 a.m.) on Tuesday.

10:08 a.m. - Court is called into session.

10:12 a.m. - Division manager for Waste Pro Joe Matz takes the stand. He works out of Hardeeville, South Carolina, and services the Savannah area.

Waste Pro collects garbage at homes, businesses and construction sites.

10:17 a.m. - The state questions Matz on garbage trucks and compactors.

10:22 a.m. - Matz explains the route sheet for the driver who serviced Azalea Mobile Home Park on Oct. 5.

10:27 a.m. - The defense cross-examines.

10:43 a.m. - Donnard Johnson, of Waste Management, takes the stand. He's the senior district manager for the coastal sites.

The state questions Johnson on his career and the operations of Waste Management and its landfills.

11:19 a.m. - Johnson is cross-examined.

11:29 a.m. - Johnson is excused. Court breaks for a 15-minute recess.
