Dutch Island under boil water advisory

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — City of Savannah water customers on Dutch Island are under a boil water advisory effective immediately.

An initial investigation by the Savannah water crews says that a contractor in the area accidentally damaged a waterline while doing other work.

The city recommends residents in the impacted area to follow these guidelines:

Boil water safely:

  • Bring water to a rolling boil for at least one full minute.
  • Allow the water to cool before using it.
  • Store boiled water in clean, covered containers.

Use boiled or bottled water for:

  • Drinking.
  • Cooking and preparing food.
  • Brushing teeth.
  • Making ice.
  • Washing fruits and vegetables.
  • Mixing baby formula.

Do not boil water for:

  • Showering or bathing (avoid swallowing water).
  • Washing hands with soap and tap water.
  • Doing laundry.
  • Cleaning surfaces or floors.

The boil water notice will remain in effect until repairs are completed and water quality testing confirms it is safe for consumption.

This is a developing story and WSAV will provide updates as soon as they are available.
