Effingham Co. Sheriff's Office warns residents of scam calls

EFFIINGHAM COUNTRY, Ga. (WSAV) — The Effingham County Sheriff's Office (ECSO) warned residents of a new scam alert on Monday.

The sheriff's office has received several calls of scammers telling people they are deputies from ECSO informing them that they have federal warrants, a spokesperson with ECSO. The scammers told residents that they needed to send them money immediately.

Some residents had already paid upwards of several hundred dollars prior to calling ECSO.

Law enforcement will never call to ask for funds over the phone.

If you receive a phone call of this manner, do not follow the instructions given, the spokesperson said. Hang up and immediately call the ECSO at (912) 754-3449.
