Effingham County Sheriff's Office Christmas bike giveaway returns

EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) — The Effingham County Sheriff's Office is also spreading some holiday cheer this December with a bike giveaway. Thanks to generous donors, the event is back for this holiday season.

The Sheriff's Office will be hosting it's Christmas bike giveaway on Thursday, December 19th at 1:00 p.m. The event aims to bring joy to local children for the holidays. To participate you must be an Effingham County resident. Families need to download the Sheriff's Office app and fill out an entry form.

Staff make sure donated bikes are ready to go.

So far this year, the office has 20 bikes, with hopes of receiving more donations before the event. The large generous donation came from Dwayne Walker and Springfield Police Chief Paul Wynn. Anyone is welcome to donate a new or gently used bike. As of last night, there's 50 entries since the application opened.

"There have been a lot of things happening this year with all the storms we've had come through the area. With the generous donation we have received from the bikes, what better opportunity than to alleviate that Christmas pressure from the parents in the area and provide these bikes," said Brian Bailey, the Public Information Officer for the Effingham Sheriff's Office.

The deadline to submit an application is this Sunday. Selected families will be notified on December 18. The giveaway is open to children between 2 to 16 years old.
