EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) - The Effingham County Sheriff's Office (ECSO) has announced that it has received two grants from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety (GOHS).
One grant is designated for High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) and the other for the Southeastern Traffic Enforcement Network (TEN).
HVE combines evident and proactive law enforcement to target a specific traffic safety issue and change unlawful and dangerous driving behaviors that contribute to most of the fatal and serious injury traffic crashes.
Law enforcement efforts are integrated with visibility elements and public notification to educate the public on traffic safety and promote voluntary compliance with the law.
The TEN grant is in recognition of the lifesaving work that ECSO has performed as part of the network. Sixteen traffic enforcement networks across the state help enforce Georgia’s year-round safety belt, speed and impaired driving campaigns.
The HVE grant is $75,248 and the major traffic enforcement grant is $33,011.12. Together, the grants total $108,259.12.
“Receiving these grant funds for traffic enforcement enables us to enhance public safety, reduce dangerous driving behaviors, and ensure that our roads are safer for everyone," says Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie. "With these resources, we can dedicate more personnel and technology to address critical traffic concerns and save lives.”
