Effingham County Sheriff's Office warns of recent phone scams

EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) - The Effingham County Sheriff's Office is warning the public about scam calls.

Officials said over the last few days, the sheriff's office has received several reports of scammers claiming to be Effingham County deputies with federal warrants.

The scammers say they need the person they're calling to send money immediately to get the warrants cleared up.

The Effingham County Sheriff's Office said they will never call to solicit funds over the phone, nor would they call to inform someone of a warrant.

Officials added that scammers and schemes ramp up during the holidays.

Anyone who receives a phone call like this is encouraged to ignore the instructions, hang up and immediately call the sheriff's office at 912.754.3449.
