Fire damages home in Wayne County

WAYNE COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) -- Firefighters battled an early morning residential fire in Madray Springs in Wayne county.

An undisclosed number of people were displaced when a single-story home was damaged by fire on the 900 block of New Hope Road.

According to Madray Springs Fire and Rescue Chief Ashley Dent an alert was sent out at 4:47 am.  When units arrived from Madray Springs and Jesup Fire and Rescue they encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the area of the garage and roof of the home. 

It took firefighters roughly 20 minutes to bring the fire under control.

Dent was unable to say how many lived in the home. However, there was one person who was in the home who made it out safely.

Odum, Screven, along with other Wayne County volunteers responded to the fire in addition to the Wayne County EMS and the sheriff’s office.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, no injuries reported.
