SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Georgia goes on the road to face off against the nation's top team. Georgia Southern keeps it rolling following last week's late comeback. Georgia Tech gets hit hard with QB1 out and Savannah State tries to keep the win streak alive for a third straight week.
Here is this week’s review of college and NFL football around Georgia.
#5 Georgia vs #1 Texas – What was being billed as a match of two juggernauts was anything but that by halftime. The Georgia Bulldogs went into Austin and knocked off the top team in the nation 30-15. Georgia pulled away early on and by half held a 23-0 lead over the Longhorns.
Junior QB Carson Beck had a rough time connecting with his receivers as he went 23 of 41 for 175 yards and three interceptions. Filling in for the lack of scoring through the air was Junior RB Trevor Etienne who accounted for 87 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries.
Georgia will be off this week and will next play the Florida Gators in Jacksonville on Nov. 2.
Georgia Southern vs James Madison – Georgia Southern carried the momentum over from last week by posting 405 yards of total offense in a 28-14 win over James Madison.
Quarterback JC French returned to the lineup following an injury last week against Marshall. French went 24 of 33 for 215 yards through the air. The sophomore signal caller threw three touchdowns and three interceptions on the day.
Senior RB Jalen White was a big part of the Eagles moving the ball as he carried the ball 23 times for 134 yards.
Georgia Southern will have a quick turnaround this week as they head to Virginia to take on the 3-4 OId Dominion Monarchs on Thursday night.
Friday Night Blitz 2024 Week 10 scores, highlights
Georgia Tech vs #12 Notre Dame – The Yellow Jackets winning streak will end after two games as they fall 31-13 to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Georgia Tech's offense finished the day with 333 yards of total offense while the defense allowed 385 yards.
With Junior QB Haynes King out due to injury, the team turned to Sophmore Zach Pyron to run the offense. Pyron went 20 of 36 for 269 yards. He would throw one touchdown against two interceptions.
Georgia Tech will look to get back in the win column this week as they go on the road to face Virginia Tech.
Savannah State vs Edward Waters – Savannah State has now extended its winning streak to three games with a 27-20 victory over Edward Waters. The Tigers offense accounted for 339 yards of total offense on the day.
Quarterback Jhaydon Sullivan was locked in as he went 14 of 18 for 256 yards and threw for four touchdowns. Senior WR Da'Shaun Mitchell was the main target of the day as he had four catches for 101 yards and two touchdowns.
Savannah State will now look to keep the winning streak going as they play their Homecoming game against 2-5 Lane College.
Atlanta Falcons vs Seattle Panthers – Atlanta struggles in the 'Battle Of The Birds' as they fall to the Seattle Seahawks 34-14. The Falcons won in the stat column as they posted 385 yards of total offense against Seattle's 339 yards.
QB Kirk Cousins was 24 of 35 on the day for 232 yards. He notched one touchdown while throwing two interceptions. Falcons RB Bijan Robinson was all over the field Sunday as he carried the ball 21 times for 103 yards and a touchdown. He also had three catches for 40 yards.
Atlanta will have to rebound quickly as they prepare to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Buccaneers are coming off a win this past week against fellow NFC South rival New Orleans Saints.
