Fort Stewart, Ga. (WSAV) - While federal agencies conduct immigration raids in Georgia, soldiers from Fort Stewart are now on their way to the southern border.
About 200 soldiers from the 549th Military Police Company and the 530th Combat Engineer Company were deployed on Sunday, Jan. 26, to support border operations directed by President Donald Trump.
Their mission includes enhancing security measures, monitoring activity and working on the construction and repair of physical barriers.
This deployment is part of a larger effort that includes about 1,500 active-duty troops joining the 2,500 service members already stationed at the border.
