Frank Callen Boys & Girls Club awarded grant

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) -- The Frank Callen Boys & Girls Club (FCBGC) announced today that it has been selected as one of 22 nonprofit organizations nationwide to receive a prestigious grant from the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Building Upgrades Inspire Local Transformation (BUILT) Nonprofits initiative. This program provides funding to support building improvement projects that reduce energy use and generate both short- and long-term cost savings.

FCBGC will receive $100,000 to upgrade its facilities, helping reduce energy costs and enhance the building's safety and health. These upgrades -- to include a new roof and other infrastructure enhancements -- are expected to create operational savings, allowing more resources to be directed toward the organization’s mission of providing a safe, nurturing environment for Savannah's youth to learn, play, and grow.

“This grant is a game-changer for our organization,” said Mark Lindsay, CEO of the Frank Callen Boys & Girls Club. “With the support of the DOE, we can enhance our facility’s energy efficiency while reinvesting savings directly into our programs for Chatham County’s youth. We are incredibly honored to be selected and excited to serve as a model for energy-efficient nonprofits in our community.”

The BUILT Nonprofits initiative is part of the DOE’s Renew America’s Nonprofits Program, which aims to reduce carbon emissions, improve the health and safety of nonprofit facilities, and lower utility costs. With this grant, FCBGC joins a national effort to inspire local transformation through clean energy solutions.

The Frank Callen Boys & Girls Club has served the Savannah community for over a century, providing invaluable resources and opportunities to children and teens.
