GSP: Drunk driver causes fatal 3-vehicle crash in Richmond Hill

RICHMOND HILL, Ga. (WSAV) – The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) is investigating a fatal crash in Richmond Hill involving an alleged drunk driver.

On Friday around 4 p.m., troopers responded to GA 25/US 17 at Ponderosa Road for a three-vehicle crash.

GSP said a driver, who was under the influence of alcohol, was traveling south on GA 25 in an SUV when they struck the rear of another vehicle, then lost control and hit another SUV that was stopped at a stop sign.

The passenger sitting in the front seat of the vehicle that was rear-ended was pronounced dead at the scene, according to GSP. She has now been identified as 35-year-old Donna Pitts, of Richmond Hill.

"She was very close to God. She had a goofy personality. She would make you laugh no matter what," said Katelyn Campbell, Pitts' sister. "She had a lot going up for her. She had a whole a whole future ahead with her children. And it was just it was snatched.”

Pitts' family has set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral costs. So far, over $5,000 has been raised.

Meanwhile, Pitts' grandmother is recovering in the hospital from injuries sustained in the crash.

Charges are pending in this case, according to GSP.
