Historic Savannah mansion gets sparkly new life

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Historic Savannah mansion has new sparkle and it's not just from the renovation.

The transformation of a stately mansion on Savannah's Forsyth Park is complete and it's a renovation that you can check out while shopping for one-of-a-kind jewelry created by a local designer.

13 Secrets opened its newest outpost at 513 Whitaker Street after a renovation that took a year and a half.

The owners, jewelry designer Chad Crawford and his husband Manu Bansal, tell WSAV the home was completed in 1903 for businessman Lawrence McNeil after a 13-year build. He established the Savannah Lumber Company that year and later founded the Savannah Lighting Company.

Deena Rauan of DStudio Design helped with the design and build of the store, the owners said.

The sale of the Greek Revival mansion made headlines last year for a record-setting price in Savannah's historic district.

Crawford and Bansal transformed the former primary suite into a room where clients can schedule private appointments to view or design jewelry and that space can also be rented out for daily use, such as for a bridal suite before a wedding.

The original 13 Secrets location on Oglethorpe Avenue is now closed. The couple also has a store in the Plant Riverside District.
