Mobile home fire in Burton displaces three
The city of Savannah’s Water Resources team responded to a water line break shortly after 8 a.m. Sunday in the vicinity of DeRenne Avenue and Reynolds Street.
Initially, crews anticipated the repair could be completed without accessing infrastructure beneath DeRenne Avenue. However, further investigation revealed that access below the roadway is necessary to address the issue.
The portion of westbound DeRenne Avenue that was closed earlier has fully reopened, along with one eastbound lane.
Crews are continuing to assess and repair the remaining eastbound lane of DeRenne Avenue. The city anticipates reopening this lane within the next few days.
Drivers are highly encouraged to use alternate routes when possible. Note that turning onto Reynolds Street from DeRenne Avenue remains unavailable now.
An update will be issued when the roadway is fully reopened.
Repairs to the damaged waterline have also been completed. Hydrant flushing has commenced, and water quality testing will begin Monday, officials said.
A notice will be sent out when the boil water advisory is lifted.
