Hospice of Savannah awarded grant for safety improvements

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Hospice of Savannah Inc. (HSI) has announced it has been awarded a grant for repairs and home modifications.

HSI will receive $1,999,111 in Older Adults Home Modification Program grant funding to complete safety and functional home modifications and limited repairs in the primary residences of two hundred eligible homeowners and renters over age 62 with low income.

The work aims to improve general safety, increase accessibility, reduce falls, and improve residents’ functional abilities in the home for their safe and successful aging in place.

HSI will provide services in Bryan, Chatham, Effingham, Liberty, and Long counties.

Hospice will accomplish this through CAPABLE, a program which uses an inter-operational team

composed of an occupational therapist, a registered nurse, and an installer to improve day-to-day functions, reduce fall risks, and enhance home safety through a combination of personalized

interventions and tailored home repairs.

This grant will help expand the existing CAPABLE program and provide funding for three years. To learn more about the CAPABLE program, please visit the Hospice Savannah website or call 912-355-2289.
