Hunter Army Airfield, elementary school lock down lifted

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — The Hunter Army Airfield was placed on a lock down around 2 p.m. on Monday.

Multiple sources said that the lockdown was due to a suspicious person on base. According to a spokesperson, at approximately 1:50 p.m. an SUV with one driver and one passenger were stopped by security forces.

"When questioned, they expressed a threat to the installation and fled the scene," the spokesperson said.

The lockdown was officially lifted at 5 p.m. and an investigation is underway.

Pulaski K8 was also on lock down, was told not to release students until advised or an all clear is given, an official commented. It was partially lifted so parents can pick up their children.

After a brief total lockdown, gates were allowing outbound traffic, an official said.

"Lock down your facility immediately, stay inside, close and lock all windows and doors," the post said.

The official suggested to keep telephone lines open for updates and monitor social media outlets.

An all-clear message will be distributed "when the emergency is over," the airfield said.
