Hyundai Metaplant to deploy XCIENT electric trucks for clean logistics

ELLABELL, Ga. (WSAV) - Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) has announced it has deployed Hyundai XCIENT heavy-duty hydrogen fuel-cell electric trucks for clean logistics operations.

The announcement is a collaboration with Glovis America, with the rollout making use of zero-emissions hydrogen fuel cell technology. These Hyundai XCIENT Class 8 heavy-duty trucks will transport vehicle parts from HMGMA suppliers across the region to the Megasite daily. During the initial rollout, 21 XCIENT trucks will be in operation, transporting parts between suppliers and the on-site Consolidation Center. HMGMA says these logistics will expand to a broader network of suppliers.

The 21 XCIENT vehicles will represent more than one-third of the Glovis America truck fleet at HMGMA.

HMGMA’s leadership states that these efforts aim to both reduce its carbon footprint and promote sustainable practices in daily logistics operations.

“At HMGMA, we are committed to creating sustainable transportation solutions,” said Chief Executive Officer Oscar Kwon. “Our Hyundai XCIENT hydrogen fuel-cell trucks that support the Metaplant release zero emissions and offer a cleaner alternative to the traditional freight logistics methods used at other manufacturing facilities.”

HTWO Logistics, a joint venture between Hyundai and Glovis, will also install a mobile hydrogen refueling station at the Megasite. A hydrogen production and refueling station is being developed for the Megasite and will be announced at a later date.
