Local law enforcement to receive federal public safety grants, Sen. Ossoff

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Twenty-five law enforcement agencies and local governments in Georgia will receive federal grants, including some in the Coastal Empire.

Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) said on Thursday that he will be delivering federal resources through the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Office of Justice Programs (OJP). His office said that these funds are to strengthen public safety, prevent violent crime and ensure the safety of Georgia families.

“I am pleased to help deliver these public safety upgrades and resources for our Georgia law enforcement agencies. I remain committed to public safety for every community in Georgia,” Ossoff said.

Three agencies in the Coastal Empire will receive funding: the city of Savannah, the city of Hinesville Police Department (HPD) and Glynn County.

The city of Savannah is set to receive $96,444 for gear and equipment for their Special Operations Units.

The HPD will receive $16,607.

Glynn County will receive $21,778 for Crimes Against Children Unit enhancement.
