Local Wawa stores open doors

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Two Wawas are now open for business in the Coastal Empire.

The convenience store chain hosted grand openings Thursday for its new Brunswick (US 341 & Community Rd.) and Jesup (356 West Orange St.) locations with giveaways, ribbon cuttings and visits from the Wally Goose mascot.

Local first responders also participated in a Hoagies for Heroes competition where they built delicious sandwiches in the name of charity.

Wawa's first Georgia store opened in Bainbridge in November.

Officials say over the next five to eight years, they plan to open three to four stores per year in the Peach State. That includes a location in Pooler at the corner of Pooler Parkway and Pine Barron Road.

The convenience store chain you know today originated in Pennsylvania as Wawa Dairy in 1902 and has expanded down the East Coast.
