New exhibit opening at Tybee Island Marine Science Center

TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WSAV) — The Tybee Island Marine Science Center will have a new exhibit open to the public, Five Sea Turtles of Georgia on Friday.

The newest educational exhibit will be used to celebrate the close of sea turtle nesting season in Georgia which is May-October, according to Executive Director of the Tybee Island Marine Science Center, Chantal Audran.

According to Audran, the Tybee Island Marine Science Center’s exhibit work represents not only the biodiversity of the Georgia barrier islands, but also the hard work of researchers along the coast. The Caretta Research Project is highlighted to inspire future scientists with interactive displays of sea turtle nesting and rescue scenarios. Visitors learn how to identify between species while learning to take action about threats and conservation for sea turtle populations.

“Earlier this year, we launched the Ocean Odyssey Exhibit Series with The Right Whale to Save,” Audran said. “During the month of October, center staff and foundation trustees gathered to recognize exhibit donors and to toast the successful partnership that brought this exhibit to life. The science center is where our community comes together, and we are very proud to share our beautiful new home in service of education and conservation."

This exhibit is the second in a series of new displays being unveiled at the Tybee Island Marine Science Center at 37 Meddin Drive. The Tybee Island Marine Science Center said their exhibit series will continue in 2025 with Spring and Fall unveilings.
