Old Savannah City Mission working to spread holiday cheer through assistanc

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Spreading holiday cheer is tougher this year as many families face difficult choices between buying Christmas presents or affording a big holiday meal.

One Savannah organization is stepping up to ease that burden by offering financial help, food assistance and more.

“We provide for anyone that needs help,” said Program Director at Old Savannah City Mission Jermaine Ray.

A true neighborhood gem, the mission offers a wide range of support to make life a little easier during the holiday season.

“Money’s tight for everybody nowadays with the economy,” Ray said. “It’s gotten tougher for people to afford expensive toys for their kids during this time of year.”

For families in need, Old Savannah City Mission provides Christmas toys, hot meals on Christmas Day, and assistance with utility bills, employment, childcare and more.

“We have an onsite chaplain to connect people with resources they need,” Ray said. “We also serve meals twice a day during lunch and dinner that anyone in the community is welcome to join.”

The mission’s efforts are fueled by community support and a commitment to making a difference.

“We’ve been really blessed to have individuals come out, see what we do here, and know that we’re making a difference for the community,” Ray said.

If money is tight this year, remember you can always donate your time.
