Pedestrian struck, killed in Vidalia

VIDALIA, Ga. (WSAV) — A woman is dead after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 280 in Vidalia Friday night.

Around 8:40 p.m., officers responded to a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on Hwy 280 near 901 E. First Street, the Vidalia Police Department (VPD) said.

VPD said that Melissa Foskey, 45, of Vidalia, was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street. Foskey was treated on the scene and was transported to a hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

The driver has been identified as Nelson Hernandez, 39, of Vidalia, VPD said.

Georgia State Patrol Post 18– Reidsville was requested and responded to the collision, VPD said.

The investigation is still ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the collision.
