Pooler mayor releases update on roads

POOLER, Ga. (WSAV) - Mayor Karen Williams released an update on winter storm recovery updates Wednesday night.

Williams said that they have taken several precautionary measures including salting several bridges ahead of potential refreezing that could happen Wednesday night.

Here are the bridges that have been salted:

  • Pooler Parkway over Highway 80
  • Pooler Parkway over the railroad tracks
  • Pooler Parkway over I-16
  • Pine Barren Road over I-95

Williams also included some reported road conditions:

  • Highway 80: Passable
  • Pooler Parkway: Passable
  • 16 Eastbound ramp to 95 Northbound: Closed and iced over, impassable
  • 16 Westbound flyover to 95 Southbound: Iced over, impassable
  • 95 Southbound flyover to 16 Eastbound: Iced over, with an abandoned car on the ramp
  • 16 Westbound ramp to Pooler Parkway: Left turn lane at the top is closed and iced over. Barricades are directing all traffic to turn right

"Thanks to our proactive and ongoing efforts and the support of GDOT, our primary roadways are largely passable," said Mayor Williams. "However, there is still significant concern about traveling on any of these roadways, especially with the hard freeze and subsequent increased potential for black ice expected tonight. We still strongly encourage residents to refrain from traveling unless absolutely necessary to ensure everyone’s safety."
