PORT ROYAL, S.C. (WSAV) – The Port Royal Police Department is seeking community input on a new shoulder patch that will represent the department.
The current patch has been in use for over 30 years, and Lt. Norman McCown says it's time for an updated look—one that captures the rich history, beauty and artistry of Port Royal.
"We're designing a new shoulder patch, and we’d love to see your creativity in action," the department shared on social media. "This is your chance to leave a lasting mark on our department while showcasing your pride in our amazing community."

"We just wanted to see what our community had to offer," said McCown. "You know, if you look around Port Royal, there's so much art around here that we as an agency really hope and feel that they'll have some good genuine input and maybe things that we wouldn't think.”
McCown joked, “Cops are generally not the most creative creatures. So, you know, we're hoping to get some creativity from the community."
The department has outlined a few key design guidelines:
- The design should reflect the history, values and spirit of Port Royal.
- It must be bold and professional enough for use on officer uniforms.
- The words “Port Royal” and “Police” must be included.
