Savannah man reportedly beaten by 2 men pretending to be Amazon delivery dr

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — A man had to be taken to the hospital after he was reportedly beaten by two men during a home invasion on Saturday morning, officials said.

The incident happened in the 500 block of Price Street at 8:20 a.m., a Savannah Police Department (SPD) spokesperson said.

According to a GoFundMe, Dirk Hardison, who is a bartender at O’Connell’s Pub, was attacked by two men pretending to be Amazon delivery drivers.

The victim told SPD that when he heard a knock on his front door, he looked through and saw the delivery drivers and opened the front door.

A police report said the suspects forced themselves into the home asking "where the money was" before striking Hardison in the head with an unknown object — possibly a sledgehammer.

A man was able to come to Hardison's aid and reportedly saw one of the men wearing an Amazon jacket running away from the scene.

Meanwhile, a next-door neighbor heard the commotion that sounded like someone had fallen down the stairs and was yelling for help, the SPD report said.

Hardison was taken to a nearby after being treated on the scene. He is expected to be OK.

SPD said that the incident is being investigated, and no arrests have been made.

The GoFundMe, labeled as a medical fundraiser, has raised over $8,500 so far.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 912-234-2020 or submit a tip through the SPD mobile app.
