HAMPTON COUNTY, S.C. (WSAV) - The South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) is investigating a pair of vehicle vs. pedestrian accidents that occurred in a span of less than a week.
The SCHP and the Hampton County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) reported a fatal one-vehicle accident occurred on Monday, Jan. 27, at 6:50 p.m. on Two Sisters Ferry Road. The crash site was near the intersection with Speed Limit Road, five miles east of the southern Hampton County town of Estill.
According to the SCHP, a 2006 Ford was traveling west when it struck the pedestrian crossing the highway near the intersection.
Coroner Fields identified the deceased white male as David J. McGee, 56, of Two Sisters Ferry Road. McGee was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Fields at 7:35 p.m., reported the Coroner's Office.
The second incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, along South Carolina Highway 63 (SC-63) near SC-363, according to SCHP Corporal David Jones.
Hampton County Coroner Anna Fields identified the latest victim as Odis Rhoden, 70, of Pontiac Lane, Varnville.
Rhoden was pronounced dead at the scene from the blunt force trauma of being struck by a vehicle, Fields confirmed.
Fields also added that no arrests were made and a toxicology report on the deceased is ongoing.
