Second arson investigation underway on Wilmington Island

WILMINGTON ISLAND, Ga. (WSAV) — An arson investigation is underway after another fire was set on Wilmington Island.

The Chatham County Fire Department (CCFD) responded to a structure fire Sunday night around 8 p.m., on Gazebo Lane. In late December, a different fire was set in the same area on Island Creek Lane.

Both fires are being investigated by Chatham Fire, the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), the Chatham County Police Department (CCPD) and the Georgia State Fire Marshal's Office as arson.

A neighbor previously told WSAV that she heard of three other fires at the Commons, which is also nearby, but Chatham Fire could only confirm one of them.

Law enforcement asked that residents secure their property, and for anyone with video of suspicious community activity to contact Chatham County Police.

They are also offering up to a $10,000 reward for anyone who can information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible.
