Suspected drunk driver crashes into Forsyth Park statue

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) -- A historic statue at the south end of Forsyth Park was damaged over the weekend when a suspected drunk driver ran into it.

It happened around 2 a.m. Sunday morning on Bull Street and West Park Avenue.

Police said 49-year-old Edward Victor Gaylord crashed into the statue that memorializes Georgia soldiers in the Spanish-American war.

No injuries were reported, but the statue was knocked to the ground.

Police said Gaylor was arrested and charged with DUI and driving too fast for conditions.
