The best way to dress for cold weather

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — With the temperatures getting lower and lower, government officials are giving suggestions on how to dress for cold weather.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) shared a guide on how to layer and what to wear in chilly, cold and extremely cold weather.

For chilly weather, they suggest one or two top layers, full-length bottoms and warm, waterproof shoes. A good way to layer in chilly weather is to wear a sweater or long sleeve under an outer layer or coat.

In cold weather, the NOAA said that adding layers will help keep you warm. They suggest two to three layers on top with an outer layer that can keep out wind, wet snow and rain. The NOAA said that you should also wear one or two layers on the bottom, such as thermals underneath your pants, and waterproof boots.

They also said that in cold weather, you should wear gloves and a hat.

In extremely cold weather, the NOAA suggests three or more layers on top, with one of those layers being an insulating layer such as a thermal top, and two or more layers on the bottom. Down jackets and Shell coats are a good option to keep warm in extreme cold weather since they can block wind.

For extremely cold weather, the NOAA also suggested that you wear a warm hat, gloves, waterproof boots and a face mask. Covering as much exposed skin as possible is preferred.
