Traffic stop leads to drug bust in Port Royal

PORT ROYAL, S.C. (WSAV) - A routine traffic stop by the Port Royal Police Department (PRPD) led to the discovery and seizure of illegal drugs.

At 9:07 p.m., on January 25th, PRPD conducted a traffic stop near the Parker's on 12 Savannah Hwy. During the stop, officers detected the smell of marijuana emanating from the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle revealed approximately 227.7 grams (or 0.5 lbs) of marijuana, along with an unknown pink powder suspected to be fentanyl. While officers were conducting the search the vehicles passenger attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended.

A firearm was also recovered from the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle was charged with driving under suspension and failure to surrender driver's license.

The passenger was charged with fleeing to evade and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
